A St. Louisan Describes His Sensations in an Opium Joint He Discovered in the Fashionable West End

“It is easy to find an opium join [sic] in St. Louis. My friend told me so several days ago. I did not believe him, but now I do, for he took me out the other night.”

That was pretty enlightening…surprising to read from a newspaper article. It’s al out advertising the merits of opium! A side note, note how the writer was instructed to remove his shoes and collar. Was this a day when they had the button on collars? Hope he wasn’t clergy! How do you find these articles? Cool stuff!
